Nosebleeds

DESCRIPTION

A nosebleed occurs when blood is lost from the membranes that line the inside of the nostrils. A nosebleed may happen if the vessels are too fragile, if there is a blow to the head, or as the result of a Common Cold. If nosebleeds happen frequently then it is possible that they are a symptom of another condition.

Young children are the group most likely to suffer from nosebleeds, in most cases the bleeding can be controlled easily. In old age nosebleeds can become more serious and frequent.

To stop a nosebleed, pressure must be applied by squeezing the soft part of the nose just below the bony area for at least 10 minutes.
