Parasitism

DESCRIPTION

A parasite is a plant or animal that at some stage of its existence obtains its nourishment from another living organism called the host. Parasites may or may not actually harm the host, but they never benefit it.

Bacteria can be parasitic on either the external or internal body surfaces, or both. Some of these invade the inner tissues and cause disease (typhoid fever, Multiple sclerosis, diabetes, heart disease, tuberculosis and some types of pneumonia). Parasites are more prevalent in the animal kingdom; most are invertebrates, chiefly worms (the fluke, tapeworm and trichina); arthropods (the flea and louse); and protozoans (amoeba histoytica). Bacterial, fungal (ringworm), and viral (Warts) Infections also meet this criterion.
